While Napoopoo is the name of the historic and picturesque Hawaiian village situated inside magnificent and majestic Kealakekua Bay, many people now refer to the surrounding hinterland as being in the Napoopoo area. Napoopoo has a rich history. As the first port for the leeward side of the island, it has the second oldest church on the island and is the final resting place for the great navigator Captain James Cook. Upslope of the village, highly productive coffee farms dot the landscape above the 600' of elevation, while downslope a collection of one-acre and larger residential and agricultural parcels enjoy panoramic vistas of Kealakekua Bay and the coastline to the south.
