Tour and Touch a Hawaiian Rainforest
Situated at the very heart of Maui, the Interactive Nature Museum and Rainforest Walk is an unforgettable, family-friendly journey through the islands' rich and beautiful natural history.
This must-see spot in Iao Valley is operated by the non-profit Hawaii Nature Center, which has focused on educating children and adults alike on Hawaii's unique environment for over 15 years.
There are over two dozen hands-on exhibits and activities in the museum, from games and aquariums to a glass solarium with beautiful views of the valley. You'll also learn about Iao Valley's place in Hawaii history, as the site of one of one of the fiercest battles of King Kamehameha.
The real attraction is the valley itself, and the Hawaii Nature Center leads guided excursions along ancient footpaths, lined with unique and rare plants and flowers and full of stories and legends. Follow in the footsteps of Hawaiian royalty and marvel at the imposing cliffs of Iao Valley. Cross a picturesque stream in the shadow of towering Iao Needle, and visit an old village and taro patch. You'll find this loop hike informative and relaxing, and a real treat for restless legs.
